PRAYER DURING AN ILLNESS
|
Help me, Father to be peaceful in living this
day. If I feel strong or improved today, let me be grateful
enough to find the time to be in your presence to thank you.
If today is going to bring me more pain, disappointment,
or depression let me accept these sufferings as living signs
of my constant need for your saving and strengthening love.
Cleanse me with a natural outburst of tears if that is the
most human way I can lose fear and find your peace today.
Let me help someone else today too, if only by my gratitude
since there is little else I can give right now. Help me
to listen to the needs of those whom I will see today.
Father, help me grow in accepting the fact that I am always
dependent on you and trusting in your promises. Deliver me
from the evil of trying to be my own strength, of doubting
your love and care. You know best what are my needs. Keep
me asking, hoping, and growing in my life toward you.
"Do not be conquered by evil but conquer evil with good." (Romans
12:21)
The only real evil is that which can separate my life from yours.
Lord, deliver me from the evil of considering myself in control
of my life situation, rather than seeking to do your will: the
evil of fearing pain and disappointment rather than using these
experiences as times of seeing how much for granted I take all
the good you have placed in my life. Deliver me from the evil of
an unforgiving heart and mind, which spreads harm and injury to
others. Deliver me from the evil of judging others, which destroys
my chances of loving them. Lord, deliver me from crippling fear
during this time of waiting.
Thank you Lord for all my loved ones, the doctors, nurses
and everybody who has helped me so very much. I cannot accept
this illness without your help. With your help I can have
the wisdom and share the mystery of seeing this suffering
even as a blessing!
I believe you wish to console and heal me. I wait in your
presence for whatever blessing you choose for me today. And
so Lord God, I give you praise, honor, and glory in every
situation of this day.

LEARNING CHRIST
|
Lord Jesus, help me to understand and believe that to feel
lonely or frightened, or even depressed about my sickness
and pain is all right. That to be human, is to be precious
to the Father. Hold my hand, and let me feel your loving
arms around me, Lord Jesus, until my pain subsides. Smile
into my eyes, dear friend, and help me remember all the wonderful
times you graced me with your love.
Jesus, pour into my whole being the truth that when I am
crushed, numbed with pain, and totally helpless, my spirit
turns instinctively to you. That in those instances of greatest
suffering and need you are most truly present.
For in those times I most closely resemble you. Thank you,
Lord Jesus!

ACT OF CONTRITION |
Oh Lord, in the helplessness and fear that
I feel in this time of sickness, I glimpse your agony in
the garden. Help me recall the times in my life when lack
of caring, moodiness, and selfishness ruled my behavior instead
of your gentle commandment of love.
I know Lord, and I am deeply sorry, that my acts of unkindness
and selfishness are the very clouds of darkness that keep
us apart. They are indeed my part of your loneliness and
despair in the garden.
My Lord and my God, only your great love and my sincere
sorrow can wash away my sins and bring me back to the glorious
light of your love.
I am truly sorry for my sins, Lord, and will try never
to sin again. I ask your forgiveness and pray for your strength.

A PRAYER FOR THE SICK
|
O Lord Jesus Christ, who during your brief life on earth
went about doing good to all men and women, be merciful to
me in this
my hour of special need.
Divine Healer, your tender heart was ever moved at the
sight of pain and affliction. I beg of you, if it be your
holy will, to help me regain my strength. Send forth healing
to all who suffer, whether in mind or body. Grant to each
of us that peace of mind which you alone can give.
Father in heaven, I thank you for all the good things that
you have bestowed upon me, especially for the precious gift
of life. Thank you for having so loved the world that you
sent to us your Son, Jesus Christ, who died for our salvation.
Jesus, my saviour and friend, grant to all people the blessings
of good health both in mind and body. Help us to do your
will in all things. Give us strength to love and heal one
another, ever remembering your words, "Whatever you do to
the least of my brothers, that you do unto Me."
|
|
PRAYER IN TIME OF DIFFICULTY |
When the trials and temptations of this world press heavily
upon my heart, walk beside me and I shall fear no evil.
Have mercy on me, Lord, and hear my prayer.
I desire most sincerely to come closer and closer to you
in my daily life especially when I suffer. Give me
insight into this mystery of suffering.

PRAYER IN TIME OF CONFUSION
Scripture: John 11-v3. "Lord, the one you love is ill."
|
When Martha and Mary sent you this message, they didn't know
what you were going to do, but they simply hoped and trusted.
I offer their words as my own prayer, Lord, turning to you
and trusting in your love. Lord Jesus, help my unbelief and
quiet my fear. Thank you, Jesus! |

ACT OF SORROW
|
For all my sins, I am truly sorry, Lord, because they have
separated me from you, who are goodness itself. I love you
with all my heart, and with your help, I will try never to
sin again. Forgive also my many imperfections, the small
and the great, and know that I will continue to trust in
your grace, which gives me life and peace, bringing me ever
closer to you. Assist me with your strength in my journey
toward eternal life, and grant your peace to all who are
struggling with the path you have given them.

|
A PRAYER FOR PEACE
|
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
and where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master, grant
that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love; for it is in giving that we receive,
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned and it is in dying
that we are born to eternal life.
